Subversion

SUBVERSION
Time ticks and terror licks came into play,
Twenty years plus, counting back from today.
Sergeant Jon Hunter, my number one man,
If he can’t save the world, than no one can.
He’s hot to trot for Ms. Suzy Q. Taylor,
It wasn’t planned out, but he gets to nail ‘er.
The Goatfish Mission before he retires,
He learns the plan, organized by liars.
Fort Wyatt Military Foundation,
Where young men go for their education.
The BSR secret society,
Before long will surely, gain notoriety.

Life of a Dog

A dogs’ life would be good for me;
I wouldn’t worry about popularity.

I’d lie on the porch and sleep all day,
then run all around acting silly, curious and gay.

I wouldn’t fret ‘bout putting my foot in my maw,
if I did who would care, I’d be chewing my paw.

I could just roll around carelessly playing in the grass;
staying out of trouble away from the morass.

No phone calls, no emails, no text messages,
no worrying about what the next secret passage is.

I wouldn’t have to worry if my arm pits stank,
nor if my feet smelled yucky or a little bit rank.

No one would be upset if I said something wrong,
or if indeed I was wearing too short a sarong.

My friends would just like me there’d be no façade;
in fact I’d be the one to get them guffawed.

No one would know that I was wicked smart,
the facts that I knew I would never impart.

Yup, to me a dogs’ life surely sounds unproblematic,
wouldn’t have to worry about recognition static.

All of this writing has now made me tired;
I better get back to my job before I get fired.

Silver on Black

With long slender fingers he picks the strings,
The pluck of each strong chord almost unseen.
His deep vocals clamor sweet tones, and sings,
Furrowed and hard age lines wrinkle his mien

He sings of love when young and in the past,
When life he knew left him with hurt and pain.
He sings a new song of love that will last,
Then asks what love has stored for him to gain.

He finds a love and takes her hand in his
He shows off his guitar silver on black
Love consummated with a tepid kiss
But abruptly the present has come back

The guitar in his hand will always seem
To be the place where he enjoys his dream.

Friendships

My friends Rachel Crocker and Berta Buck made this wall hanging for me for Christmas.  I was so surprised when I found it in my mailbox.  I had no idea they were doing this.  It was so perfect and so well thought out.  (If you follow Crackerberries you will know I am very much into canning and preserving).  Everytime I look at the wall hanging of jars filled with so many different things, I think of friendships and how they resemble mason jars.  This is what I've come up with.

Friendship

Much like a cupboard of full Mason jars
Or the midnight sky of twinkling stars
A friend may be compassionate and sweet
Whilst some encourage in times of defeat

Sharing a story to brighten a frown
Lending a shoulder to the friend who’s down
Great treasure is found when least expected
Friends will stand tall when one is rejected

Countless secrets, much laughter digested
Friendships depend on the time invested
Shower friendships with love and affection
Grow toward the light in the right direction

Relationships built on candor and trust
Will stand the test of time and never rust
Friendships will age, as does the garden crop
Work will be done, with many a teardrop

Like an old Mason jar filled with treasure
Finding true friendship is such a pleasure

Patience vs. Eagerness

If it takes a regular
mourning dove
poised on a fence post
as an example
of performing patience
gracefully,
a flock
of intermittent Blue Jays
will arrive with eagerness,
brutally
emptying the birdfeeder.

Charlie

Had a big doggie, who’s name was Charlie
Nighttime he liked to bark, no sleep for us.
Just moved his dog house, new pad was gnarly,
Broke loose from his chain, hit by a school bus

Maybe not a bus, but car, or a truck
Whoever hit him left him there to die
Poor little doggy never had good luck
Died ‘fore I had a chance to say good-bye

I hope there’s a heaven for all my dogs
They all mean so much, hate for them to go
Next pet should be a bucket full of frogs
‘Cause I probably wouldn't miss them so

Chuck was a good dog, though he barked a lot
His brother will miss him, poor old Foxtrot.
